How Do I Know if I'm Suffering from Hearing Loss?

Look for the signs - do you need to turn up the volume on the tv to higher levels? Do you struggle to hear people and think they're mumbling? Do you struggle hearing people nearby when in noisy or crowded places? Do your ears ring? All of these are signs that you might be suffering from some level of hearing loss.

Why Are Hearing Aids Expensive?

The cost of the service that goes with hearing aids is cooked into the initial price. Your hearing aids require periodic adjustments and won't be of much use without a board certified hearing specialist or audiologist who knows how to make them work best for you. With the initial purchase, you have access to unlimited service for up to three years.

How Long Does a Hearing Test Take?

A hearing test (or hearing evaluation) can take from 30 to 60 minutes, and that is from the moment you walk through our door to the moment you walk out. A comprehensive hearing evaluation doesn’t take long, and it is completely painless.

What If I'm Not Sure If I Have Hearing Loss?

If you are unsure if you have hearing loss, the best thing to do is schedule a hearing evaluation to find out for sure. Maybe you have slight hearing loss or hearing loss in just one ear. Hearing loss varies from person to person so the type and degree of hearing loss can only be determined with a professional hearing test at HEARt Ear Boutique.

Who Can Suffer from Hearing Loss?

Hearing loss is not limited to any specific group. Symptoms of hearing loss can, however, prove to be more prevalent with age. Any person who has an underlying issue or goes through experiences that damage parts of the ear responsible for normal hearing function can suffer from hearing loss.

Are Cue Tips Safe for Your Ear?

Cue tips are made to neatly scoop up wax in the ear, but NOT inside the ear. You should never attempt to put anything into your ear, as you will only push wax in further and possibly damage your inner ear. Your ears should naturally deposit wax, allowing you to clean up the outer ear without issue.

My Loved One Might Have Hearing Loss – How Do I Convince Them To Get A Hearing Test?

Many people who experience hearing loss go through a period of denial and mourning internally. People mourn the loss of their hearing and what this means for them moving forward. The best thing to do is help them work through their feelings, research helpful resources, and encourage them to get a hearing evaluation from a professional. Once people treat their hearing loss, they start feeling like themselves again.

How Much Do Hearing Aids Cost?

The cost of hearing aids varies by model and manufacturer, as well as services included. Some hearing specialists and audiologists include services with the purchase of hearing aids (like repairs and replacements) while others bill services a la carte. If you buy hearing aids online without professional guidance, you may pay less, but you lose the compassionate care and guidance. Hearing aids can be a substantial investment – but as with many technologies, the cost of hearing aids has been going down recently.

Will Hearing Aids Restore My Hearing?

No - effects of hearing loss are permanent. There is no substitute for your body's natural ability to interpret and filter sounds. A hearing aid serves to help amplify parts of your hearing that are weaker, but it does not have the same ability to distinguish and filter sound as your natural hearing does.

Can I Use Any Hearing Aid Style?

Your board certified hearing specialist or audiologist will make recommendations on the hearing aid style you should utilize depending on the nature of what is causing your hearing loss. Some hearing aid models might not be as cosmetically attractive, but could be essential for more serious levels of hearing loss to provide bone conduction.

I’ve Heard Bad Things About Hearing Aids, Like People Have Whistling or Feedback Noises. Why Should I Get A Hearing Aid If They’re Like This?

Hearing aids can produce whistling sounds or feedback occasionally, but there are only a few reasons for this, all of which are easily resolved.

  • If your hearing aid doesn’t fit right or is too loose, it allows the amplified sound to escape from your ear, causing feedback.
  • You may also receive feedback if you stand too close to a surface that reflects sound, like a wall.
  • Some feedback occurs because the volume control is too high.

You can easily fix most of these feedback problems on your own but if you find you need assistance, we are always here to help.

Are There Other Ways I Can Treat My Hearing Loss?

Possibly, but it depends on what type of hearing loss you have and its severity. There are several hearing-related tools like hearing amplifiers, amplified telephones, TV listening systems and personal listening systems. Plus, we also need to consider if you have any other underlying conditions (like tinnitus).

We are always happy to develop a treatment plan that works best with your needs and lifestyle. Have more questions?  Please contact us and we’ll discuss all of these things in more detail.
